This work by Concha Jerez comprises an artist’s book featuring illegible writings crossed out and therefore censored by the artist. Through the concealment of certain fragments and by leaving other parts in view, Jerez forces a crack through the meaning of the idea of the book, thereby playing with the ambiguity generated by interference and self-censorship. The work, moreover, alludes to the lack of freedom during Franco’s dictatorship as it plumbs the relationship and reaction these veiled texts provoke in the viewer.
