Caja de resonancia (Sound Box), an archive of texts, voices, video and performances that searches for the multiple forms radiating contemporary Latin American poetics, is the focal point of the eighth edition of the Museo Reina Sofía’s programme Documents, which revolves around independent artist publications, platforms, networks and publishing spaces, in addition to the potential of archive to reinvent the narratives of art and its ecosystem.
To be situated in listening, as Jean-Luc Nancy imagined, involves being positioning precisely in displacement, between senses and sound, between the voice and its reverberation, between past and present. In this gap, the Caja de resonancia team, made up of Irina Garbatzky, Ignacio Iriarte, Matías Moscardi and Ana Porrúa, understand archive as an organisation, a meeting, an utterance of what we see and hear in Latin American poetry. The project’s website features a section on materials and another on archive-related criticism, linking a theoretical-critical reflection and exhibitions in the form of a repository. Furthermore, it is home to the journal on the theory and critique of Latin American poetry, El jardín de los poetas.
This encounter sees Ana Porrúa present the project Caja de resonancia (Sound Box), putting forward the entries of some materials from this digital archive, the construction of which sets forth a number of themes: the political inscriptions of voice in poetry, traditions put into practice, the issue of new technology, assembled series, or the ways in which archive constructs poetics. Thus, all of the above seeks to bring about a collective reflection on how to work with poetic documents under the positive sign of their “impurity”.
Ana Porrúa is a professor of Humanities at the Universidad de Buenos Aires (UBA), a lecturer at the Universidad Nacional de Mar del Plata (UNMdP) and a researcher at the National Scientific and Technical Research Council (CONICET). She is specialised in contemporary Latin American poetry, image criticism and voicing associated with problems of archive. She is currently editor of the culture magazine BazarAmericano, a member of the management team of the project Caja de resonancia and the journal on the theory and critique of Latin American poetry, El jardín de los poetas. Her most recent publications include Caligrafía tonal. Ensayos sobre poesía (2011) and Bello como la flor de cactus (2019).
